Calypso’s Circular Pitch

Excerpt from the Calypso Handbook

CALYPSO determines the circular pitch for all features and outputs the results either to CALYPSO or according to DIN 3960.

Circular Pitch does not work on:

·         2D curve

·         3D curve

·         free form surface

·         general surface

·         general curve features

First create a rotational pattern or polar pattern offset. This can be any feature type, in our example, we will use a 4 hole circle pattern.

Next click on Size/ More/ Circular Pitch

This will add a characteristic to the characteristic tab.

Open the Circular Pitch dialog menu

Insert the circle pattern into the Feature 1 box.

We will report the results in angles as opposed to reporting in Arc Length (radial)

Now select what results you would like to report.

Run the program.

Results

The minimum and maximum of each report type will be reported on the Calypso report.

fp  - Individual Circular Pitch = Difference between the actual and the predefined distance of two adjacent features.

Fp Cumulative Pitch Error = The largest difference between the individual cumulative pitch deviation values. In other words, the total of the individual pitch errors.

fu Pitch Error = Difference between the current and the previous individual pitch error.

Fr Radial Runout = Radial deviation between a feature and the pitch circle radius of the pattern. The center point of the pitch circle corresponds to the center of the pattern. The radius is the distance between the center and the first actual feature of the pattern. The result is a length. The nominal value is 0. The n-th result is always 0.

Fre Roundness = Radial deviation between a feature and the pitch circle radius of the pattern. The center point of the pitch circle is calculated based on the actual features of the pattern. The pitch circle is calculated via the best-fit method according to Gauss (LSQ feature). The radius is the distance between the calculated pitch circle center point and the first actual feature of the pattern.

To achieve the report shown below create it in Graphic Elements or click on the PiWeb Reporting icon in the circular pitch characteristic.
